Madinat Al Zahra’s Golden Dome Shines Bright
On September 30, 2025, Madinat Al Zahra Masjid reached a significant milestone with the installation of its new golden dome — a symbol of unity, faith, and the timeless beauty of Islamic architecture. A small ceremony was held to mark the occasion, attended by members of our community who gathered to witness this inspiring moment.​

Key Stages in the Masjid Development

February 2017
Workshop event at Café Zoya held for key post holders of MQI. -
February 2017
Approval of planning conditions received. Demolition work began, and conversion of the temporary building commenced. -
November 2016
Submission of pre-commencement planning condition documents. -
June 2016
Official planning decision and approval received. -
April 2016
Planning and Appeals Committee hearing held. -
November 2015
Full Planning Application (15/06524/MAF) and Listed Building Consent (16/01881/LBC) submitted. -
May 2015
Fundraising event held at Café Zoya. A project presentation was delivered to members of MQI. -
April 2015
Meeting held with Michael Eaglestone to discuss the submitted design. -
March 2015
Second consultation held. Further information shared as part of a developed design phase. Main issue raised concerned the demolition of a listed building. -
August 2014
Further information received from the planning department highlighting key aspects of the development needing focus and attention. -
Jun / Jul 2013
Design team appointed to undertake design work required for planning approval. -
March 2013
Community event at Rio Grande. An initial feasibility study document was presented. -
Oct / Nov 2012
Initial site discussions and exploration of potential. Several meetings held over a 3–4 month period to begin the purchase process.
